The Road of Loyalty

In 1645, when the Manchu took the town of Jiangyin in the province of Jiangsu, they imposed the condition that the Han people cut their hair. All inhabitants of Jiangyin refused. They stood back to back for 81 days to resist. In the end they were all killed.

With the invasion of the Manchu from the northeast of China, the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty began. The street where this happened has been called Zhongyi Street ever since, which means Loyalty Street. The renewal of this road keeps alive the memory of it.
